Relaunching The Hastings Times

Relaunching The Hastings Times

The Hastings Times was born in March of 2003 as The Hastings Senior Times, and later that year we added The Hastings Family Times. Unfortunately, after 35 weekly issues we suspended operations at the end of November, 2003 primarily due to equipment problems. We had hoped to resume operations, but were never able to do so—until now.

Our original publications (like the ones we had previously done in Florida) were printed on paper and distributed throughout the community. This current venture will be web-based, at least for now. Our original publication was supported by advertising (and heavily subsidized by the editor). At least as currently envisioned, we will not be seeking advertising.

Five years after our initial launch, we still love this outstanding little city that we call our home. Hastings is the best place I've ever lived, and I like to make sure people know that. My wife and I are in that "sandwich" part of life where we are helping to care for our elderly family members, and still have children at home who need our attention. We must work to support ourselves and could easily turn our attentions only inward, but we recognize the importance of community. The Hastings Times is part of our efforts to strengthen our community.

Our purpose is not to compete with existing media, who in large measure do an admirable job, but rather to add our voice to the mix. Issues facing seniors and families continue to be of great interest to us. Meeting people and learning the history of this area deepens our understanding and appreciation for living in Hastings. These are among the things we hope to discuss in The Hastings Times.

Our web skills are somewhere between rudimentary and non-existent so we ask for your understanding as we keep things simple, and concentrate on content, rather than razzle dazzle. We appreciate your looking in on us, and always enjoy hearing from our readers. At least for now, however, we won't have a way for readers to post anything on our website, but we will respond directly to all who write.

Thank you for reading The Hastings Times, and we hope you'll come back often and that we will have things of interest to you.

        Best wishes.
